About Us

A journalist throughout most of his professional life, Victor C. Agustin stumbled into newspapering when he applied for a proofreading job to support himself through college, working on his AB Sociology degree at the University of Santo Tomas.

His reporting during the difficult Marcos years earned him an Alfred Friendly Fellowship at the Boston Globe in 1984. His overseas experience includes covering the High Court in Hong Kong in 1988-89 for the Hongkong Standard.

He took a sabbatical from newspapering for two years, in 1995-97, to join the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas as assistant to the chairman of the Monetary Board. He was the first and so far the only journalist to have been extended the privilege to attend the meetings of the monetary authority's policy-making body.

He is also a founding minority shareholder of the Philippine Daily Inquirer.
