Diokno's gift that keeps on giving

Bangko Sentral may be behind
the inflation curve, but it is way
ahead of the compensation game

Hefty salary increases last year resulted
in the bank's general counsel even overtaking
Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo's pay package

Compensation of Benjamin Diokno as BSP governor
doubled, along with those of the Monetary Board members;
lucky senior bank officers, on the other hand, received 30-40% pay hike

In 2020, eight out of the 20 highest-paid government officials were from Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas;
by the following year, thanks to Diokno's generosity, 12 out of the 20 were from the BSP.

The 2nd highest salaried government officer in 2020, then Solicitor General Jose Calida, received about P15.65 million. By 2021, Calida had slid down to number 12, after getting less than P1 million pay increase.

On the other hand, Diokno's 2020 package of P19.8 million the following year soared to P41.8 million, proving that charity indeed begins at home.
