High-society gossip, for a change

To those of you who may be getting too frazzled by the toxic political atmosphere and want some pleasant diversion, here's some class-A chatter, picked up from the Manila Polo Club, no less.

A number of third-generation heirs of the country's de buena familia are harvesting the fruits generated from the hardy trees planted by their grandparents.

For example, Hanna Carrina Sy, daughter of SM heir Hans Sy, is getting her own proprietary Manila Polo Club share, two years after college graduation.

Ditto with Christopher Gotianun, whose mother happens to be a Consunji.
A month ahead of them, a daughter of Globe president Ernest Cu, Ma. Cristina Cu, also applied for membership at the country's toniest social club.

Cu, who only last October married her own business partner in an hydrophonics farm venture, submitted the Polo Club application almost at the same time as Patrick Reed Maxwell, son of Asia Society darling Doris Magsaysay Ho.

Maxwell is the president of the family's Magsaysay Global Services, a recruitment agency established initially to recruit Filipino crew for foreign cruise ships and has now branched into hiring nurses for Germany and meat-cutters for Canada.

Oh, in case you need to ask, a Manila Polo Club share was last quoted, buying, at P24 million.
(The screenshot of Hanna Carrina Sy with her parents was shamelessly grabbed from Johnny Litton's column in The Philippine Star.)
