Mahjong still popular, thanks/no thanks to Maid in Malacanang

This Chinese tile game which we provincial folks associated with señoras, lazy afternoons, and wakes apparently is still popular even among overseas Filipinos, even in this day and age of 24/7 Facebook and Tiktok addiction.

Money-Go-Round is not alluding to the pained outcry in mainstream and social media being generated by the politically-incorrect mahjong scene from the Maid in Malacanang movie.

Rather we are referring to online statistics from Walmart, the retail behemoth, generated all the way from cold Canada.

Incredulous?

Look at the accompanying screenshot, taken earlier today from Walmart, listing the most popular Philippine products being sold on its Canadian website.

Thankfully, the Philippine flag outranks the Chinese game in this Walmart ranking, with the imported sweet spaghetti sauce from UFC being the all-time Filipino favorite.

Food, flag, cookbook, and mahjong, in that order. To many promdis, present company included, that's a recipe for a happy life.
