Scatological antiquity found in Home Depot Santa Rosa, Laguna

(Warning: Not Safe For Mealtime Reading)

Money-Go-Round was amused to have stumbled into this squat toilet gathering dust at the CW Home Depot branch in Santa Rosa City, Laguna.

It was a showroom model brought by IMEX Ceramics, a global Chinese manufacturer that had apparently misread the local market acceptance for the - ah - traditional fecal evacuation system.

My first time to have encountered such a seat - not counting our promdi outhouse days - was at the Narita airport, when the then newly-renovated Northwest Airlines lounge still offered the "traditional" Japanese toilet, thankfully complete with graphic instructions.

The hole-on-the-floor Narita experience brought back memories drilled by youthful experience, that is, squatting beats sitting on the throne for quicker business.

More recently, three months ago to this day, we had been reacquainted with the Japanese washiki, but this time the Arab version, at the Casablanca international airport.

Given that Morocco is mostly desert, the Casablanca airport suffers water shortage, its maintenance culture our wonderful sanitation folks at the Manila international airport would be familiar with.

To our mild gasp, when we had to rush after deplaning for a number 1 relief, there it was, a ceramic slide with a hole, with water drops on the floor for added local color.

Without going further into details, Money-Go-Round can assure readers that the turnaround was fast. Any poseur executing especially a number two is denied the luxury of a Rodin pose or smartphone use, the latter increasing the possibility of accidentally dropping the digital lifeline into the much enlarged sh...ole as senior knees begin to shake.

Out of curiosity, we did a quick Lazada search to check if there were any other similar models locally available.

Yes, there is another brand, with a Japanese-sounding name and a smaller footprint. Even better, its "ceramic squat toilet" came with a water tank and a bidet sprayer, the package at a tantalizing low price of P1,999.

The small print: The added delivery cost of P1,100.

This particular toilet package says it will "quickly remove stains," and "the sewage discharge is smooth without blockage."

"And", it further promises, "you can enjoy the pleasure of flushing at one time," which should be music to Maynilad/Manila Water's ears.

It should also be ideal for Forbes Park señoras who, on the rare occasion that they have to inspect their drivers' quarters and adjoining western-style toilet, would mutter "how baboy the pig" under their breath.

Easy to clean, cheap to maintain, perfect for the peasants, what is there not to like?
